This week in Parliament, all eyes will be on the Budget Speech by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana on Wednesday, 19 February, where the government’s fiscal plans will take centre stage. On Wednesday, 19 February, discussions will shift to security, governance, and infrastructure. The Portfolio Committee on Police will review the SAPS Safer Festive Season operations, efforts to combat extortion-related crimes, and challenges within the Detective Services. The Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration will scrutinise public sector recruitment reforms and the alignment of the National Framework Towards Professionalisation of the Public Sector with the Medium-Term Development Plan. The Portfolio Committee on Electricity and Energy will assess how SONA 2025 impacts energy policy and legislative priorities, while the Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development will hear a ministerial briefing on the Land Reform/Redistribution Bill.
