This week in parliament: Economic questions and SCOPA meetings
Jun 5, 2023

1. Parliamentary Programme

Wednesday will be a lively day in parliament as ministers in the economic cluster are asked questions in the National Assembly. This cluster includes the ministers of Public Enterprises, Public Works and Infrastructure, Small Business and Development, Trade, Industry and Competition, Tourism and Transport.

The DA’s Dean Macpherson has tabled the following question for the minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Ebrahim Patel: “What steps has he taken to secure an extension for the Republic of the African Growth and Opportunity Act agreement that will expire in 2025?” The renewal of this act, which gives South Africa preferential access to certain US markets, is threatened by our country’s stance on the Ukraine-Russia war, which runs counter to American foreign policy.
