• President Ramaphosa to Address National Transport Conference

President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the inaugural national transport conference at Gallagher Estate in Midrand. Held under the theme “Transport: The Driver for Growth, Job Creation, Inclusivity and Sustainability”, the conference will bring together policymakers, investors and industry stakeholders to discuss challenges facing the sector, including rail modernisation, port and freight bottlenecks, road safety and infrastructure backlogs.

• Parliament to Focus on Social Services, Human Rights and Gender Equality

The National Council of Provinces will host oral questions to ministers in the social services cluster, including the ministers of water and sanitation and human settlements. Issues expected to be raised include flood damage assessments, municipal infrastructure funding, vandalism at water treatment works, stalled housing projects and the national housing backlog. The National Assembly will also hold debates marking Human Rights Day under the theme “Celebrating 30 years of the Bill of Rights as a sovereign and free constitutional republic”, alongside a debate on International Women’s Day.

• Stats SA to Release February Inflation Data

Statistics South Africa will release the latest consumer inflation data, with economists expecting a second consecutive easing in annual inflation to 3.1% in February from 3.5% in January. On a month-on-month basis, however, consumer prices are projected to have increased by 0.5%, up from 0.2% previously, indicating firmer price growth during the month.

• Mashatile to Answer Questions in the National Assembly

Deputy President Paul Mashatile is scheduled to appear before the National Assembly to respond to oral questions from MPs. The sitting will also include a debate on a matter of urgent national public importance, sponsored by Bosa leader Mmusi Maimane, focusing on the escalating crisis in the Middle East following the US attacks on Iran and the implications for South Africa.

• Human Rights Day Commemorations Mark Sharpeville Anniversary

South Africa will mark the 66th anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre as the country commemorates Human Rights Day on Saturday. President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address at the official government event in Kimberley, while Deputy President Paul Mashatile is set to participate in the Alexandra Marathon. Political parties and leaders are also expected to visit the Sharpeville memorial site to lay wreaths in remembrance of those killed in 1960.
