This week in Parliament, committees are set to address a diverse range of critical issues, from police accountability and service delivery in local government to electoral reforms and public health. Adding to this busy schedule, the National Assembly will hold debates and voting sessions on the Revenue Laws Amendment Bill on Tuesday, and the Appropriation Bill on Wednesday.
On Monday, the Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade will consider and adopt budget vote reports for the Department of Tourism and the Department of Small Business Development. On Tuesday, a joint meeting of the Portfolio Committee on Police and the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development will consider a draft report on allegations made by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Provincial Commissioner. The Select Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Mineral Resources will be briefed by the Department of Agriculture on challenges in its Strategic Plan, focusing on simplifying regulatory compliance and promoting consistency. The Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Public Administration will receive a briefing from the South African Human Rights Commission on the status of service delivery in local government. The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs will deliberate on and adopt the report on the Immigration Amendment Bill, and receive responses on submissions for the One Stop Border Post Bill.
On Wednesday, the Select Committee on Public Infrastructure & Minister in the Presidency will be briefed by the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation on its Strategic Plan, APP, and Budget. The Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade will receive a briefing from the Unemployment Insurance Fund on its Budget, Strategic Plan, and Annual Performance Plan.
Later in the week, on Thursday, the Portfolio Committee on Health will hold further public hearings on the Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill. The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education will receive a status update from the WCED on BELA Act Regulations and Implementation, including Grade R Admissions and specific cases related to learner placements and allegations of rape at Acacia Park.
Concluding the week on Friday, the Joint Standing Committee on Financial Management of Parliament will receive briefings from Parliament, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, and the National Prosecuting Authority on investigations into the cause of the 2022 fire and progress on reconstruction. The Portfolio Committee on Health will hold additional public hearings on the Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill. Finally, the Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services will be briefed on Section 49G and Section 62F applications, including statistics over a three-year period.
