This week in Parliament, attention will be drawn to significant oversight and policy discussions, including Questions to the President on Tuesday. Parliamentary committees will also delve into a range of crucial matters covering economic development, environmental management, education, water security, and public service reform. On Tuesday, the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry will receive a briefing on the IDC’s Corporate Plan, while the Portfolio Committee on Environment, Forestry and Fisheries will engage with Buffalo City and City of Cape Town on waste management. The Select Committee on Education and Creative Industries will consider the Department of Basic Education’s Strategic and Annual Performance Plans, and the Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation will discuss the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase Two and the National Water Resources Infrastructure Agency SOC Limited Amendment Bill. Additionally, the Portfolio Committee on Tourism will be briefed on tourism infrastructure projects, and a joint meeting of Finance and Appropriations committees will receive a briefing on the 2025 Budget from the Parliamentary Budget Office and the Financial and Fiscal Commission.

On Wednesday, the Portfolio Committee on International Relations & Cooperation will hold a colloquium on South Africa’s management of the G20 opportunity, and the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will consider proposed amendments to the Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Bill. The Portfolio Committee on Police will consider the 4th Quarter Crime Statistics for 2024/25, and the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry will engage with steel industry stakeholders on the Steel and Metal Fabrication Master Plan. Further, the Portfolio Committee on Electricity and Energy will discuss the Municipal Electricity Distribution Industry, and the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration will focus on eliminating ‘ghost employees’ from the PERSAL system. The Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies will receive an update on the South African Post Office’s Business Rescue Plan, and the Portfolio Committee on Health will hold public hearings on the Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill.

The week will also see the Multi-Party Women’s Caucus presenting its 6th Term Legacy Report on Thursday. Concluding the week on Friday, the Portfolio Committee on Police will meet with Kenya’s Independent Policing Oversight Authority, and the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry will receive briefings on BEE transformation and the Transformation Fund. A joint meeting of the Finance committees will hear responses from National Treasury and SARS on public submissions regarding the 2025 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals.
