- Electoral Commission of South Africa Races to Finalise Ballot Printing
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) enters the final week before the 4 November local government elections racing to complete the printing of some 27 million ballot papers. The delay follows the ANC’s successful challenge to the disqualification of some of its candidates, with other parties and independent candidates having applied for the same relief last week. The Commission has this week to finalise logistics before special voting begins next Monday.

- South African Reserve Bank to Release Business Cycle Indicators
The South African Reserve Bank will publish its composite business cycle indicators for August on Tuesday. The leading indicator declined for a second consecutive month in July, when six of its ten components weakened. A third consecutive decline would indicate that growth momentum is fading into year-end, despite progress on structural reform.
- Parliament Briefed on the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement
Parliament’s finance and appropriations committees will be briefed by the Parliamentary Budget Office and the Financial and Fiscal Commission on the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), tabled by finance minister Enoch Godongwana on 21 October. The independent assessments will test the credibility of National Treasury’s revenue, spending and debt projections. The Parliamentary Budget Office and Financial and Fiscal Commission frequently highlight fiscal risks that ratings agencies and bond markets subsequently price in. Their views on revenue shortfalls, state-owned company exposure and debt stabilisation will signal the likely pressure on tax policy ahead of the February 2027 Budget.
- Treasury Responds to Submissions on Anti-Money Laundering Amendment Bill
The NCOP’s select committee on finance will hear National Treasury’s responses to public submissions on the General Laws (Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism Financing) Amendment Bill. The session marks a further step towards finalising amendments to South Africa’s financial integrity framework. Treasury’s responses will indicate which industry concerns have been accommodated and where compliance obligations are likely to tighten.
Wednesday – 28 October 2026
- Parliament Holds Public Hearings on the Revised Fiscal Framework
Parliament’s standing and select committees on finance will hold joint public hearings on the revised fiscal framework and revenue proposals contained in the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement. The hearings give stakeholders a formal opportunity to comment on government’s fiscal plans.
- Business Leadership South Africa Releases Quarterly Reform Tracker
Business Leadership South Africa will release its quarterly Reform Tracker update, assessing progress across governance, criminal justice and the economy. Krutham executive chair Stuart Theobald will unpack the findings and what is required to convert reform momentum into sustained economic growth.

- Statistics South Africa to Release Rebased and Benchmarked GDP Estimates
Statistics South Africa will release rebased and benchmarked GDP estimates, along with restated provincial GDP figures. The five-yearly exercise updates the reference year for constant-price estimates and incorporates improved data, classifications and methodologies to reflect structural changes in the economy.
- Statistics South Africa to Publish Producer Price Index for September
Statistics South Africa will publish producer price inflation data for September. The index slowed to 5% year on year in August, but Nedbank expects an acceleration to 5.3%, driven mainly by coke and petroleum products as oil trades above $100 a barrel amid disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Fuel-driven pressure at the factory gate typically feeds through to consumer prices within two to three quarters.
Friday – 30 October 2026
- National Treasury Briefs Media on Operation Vulindlela Progress
National Treasury will hold an online media briefing on the second-quarter progress report of Operation Vulindlela, its joint reform initiative with the Presidency. The briefing is expected to cover milestones in energy and electricity, water and sanitation, and freight logistics and transport, and may provide further detail on the White Paper on Local Government released last Thursday.
- Parties Head into Final Campaign Weekend
The DA will hold a media briefing on Friday ahead of its final national rally in Mamelodi, Tshwane, on Saturday, where Geordin Hill-Lewis will make the party’s closing pitch. ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa will campaign in Johannesburg on Saturday before leading the party’s Siyanqoba rally at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Sunday, while the EFF’s Julius Malema and Rise Mzansi’s Songezo Zibi will focus their final efforts on Gauteng.
