- Feroz Khan and Taxi Violence Evidence Before the Madlanga Commission
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system resumes on Monday, with dismissed senior Crime Intelligence officer Feroz Khan scheduled to testify. His evidence is likely to be heard in camera at the evidence leader’s request, after his appearance was delayed by several weeks when his legal team argued he was medically unfit. The commission will also hear evidence linked to Mpumalanga taxi boss Bafana Sindane this week, having dismissed his application to postpone his testimony and to prevent the use of his WhatsApp messages with taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni.
- Electoral Commission of South Africa to Begin Ballot Printing Amid Court Challenges

- South African Reserve Bank to Publish September Quarterly Bulletin
The South African Reserve Bank releases its Quarterly Bulletin on Tuesday, covering sector performance, inflation, household and business consumption, investment and government finances for the second quarter of 2026. The June edition found that the war in the Middle East had significantly affected financial markets and energy prices, without materially affecting real economic activity in the first quarter. Tuesday’s bulletin will provide the clearest official read yet on how far the US-Iran conflict and resulting oil shock have passed through into the South African economy.
- Statistics South Africa to Release Quarterly Employment Statistics
Statistics South Africa publishes its Quarterly Employment Statistics for the second quarter of 2026 on Tuesday, measuring formal non-agricultural employment through a survey of businesses. The previous release showed total employment fell by 80 000 jobs, or 0.8%, in the first quarter, with losses in community services, trade, transport and electricity partly offset by gains in manufacturing, business services, mining and construction.
- Minister Ntshavheni to Brief Media on Cabinet Outcomes
Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni will brief the media in Pretoria on Tuesday on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, 23 September. The briefing typically sets out decisions taken, legislation approved for tabling in Parliament and senior appointments. With the election campaign under way, the briefing may emphasise positions on crime, the cost-of-living pressures stemming from the energy shock, and any regulatory decisions with sector-specific implications.

- Producer Price Inflation for August 2026
Statistics South Africa releases producer price inflation figures for August on Wednesday morning. July’s index fell month on month as lower oil prices fed through to fuel and related by-products such as chemicals, rubber and plastics. The rise in the oil price during August is likely to be reflected in a higher PPI, with markets anticipating an increase of almost 1% month on month and around 6% year on year.
- Mkhwanazi Ad Hoc Committee Works to Finalise Its Report
Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee to Investigate Allegations made by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi meets on Tuesday and Wednesday as it works to finalise its report, following a sitting on Friday. The additional meetings come after recent criticism from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza, over the committee’s progress.
- Auditor-General Begins Releasing 2025/26 Audit Outcomes
The Auditor-General of South Africa is presenting 2025/26 audit outcomes to parliamentary portfolio committees this week. On Wednesday it releases audits for the Department of Public Service and Administration and its entities – the National School of Government, the Centre for Public Service Innovation and the Public Service Commission – followed by the health sector on Thursday and higher education and training on Friday. The outcomes offer an early indicator of financial management and accountability across key departments. The health sector results are particularly relevant for suppliers, private healthcare providers and investors, as irregular expenditure and payment delays translate directly into commercial and contractual risk.

- Absa Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index for September 2026
Absa releases its September Purchasing Managers’ Index, compiled by the Bureau for Economic Research, on Thursday. The August index fell to 45.8 amid soft domestic demand and cost pressures linked to the Middle East conflict. September’s reading is expected to improve but remain in contractionary territory, with business activity and new orders subdued even as medium-term expectations have strengthened. Sustained readings below 50 suggest manufacturing is unlikely to contribute meaningfully to third-quarter growth.
- New Vehicle Sales for September 2026
The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa publishes September new vehicle sales on Thursday. August sales came in at close to 58 000 units, and September is expected to remain robust, although below the highs recorded in March, July and August. Vehicle sales are a reliable gauge of confidence in big-ticket spending, and resilient numbers would support the view that household and business balance sheets are holding up despite higher fuel costs and interest rates.
