This week in Parliament, committee hearings will focus on digital policy, immigration, justice, policing, energy, and defence. On Wednesday, the Justice Committee will assess the Parliamentary Legal Services’ opinion on the section 79(1) referral of the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Amendment Bill and its connection to a pending Constitutional Court case. The Police Committee will receive reports from SAPS, IPID, CSPS, PSIRA, and other oversight bodies on progress made in addressing previous committee recommendations. The Defence Committee will discuss efforts to develop a new human resources strategy for force rejuvenation, including interdepartmental agreements to assist SANDF members in transitioning to civilian roles. The Social Development Committee will review a petition calling for an increase in pensioners’ social grants, with responses from SASSA and the Department of Social Development. The Electricity and Energy Committee will receive a briefing from NERSA on its decision regarding Eskom’s Multi-Year Price Determination (MYPD6) for the 2025/26, 2026/27, and 2027/28 financial years. The Employment and Labour Committee will assess the Department of Employment and Labour’s third-quarter performance for 2024/25, along with updates on the Supported Employment Enterprises programme.
The week concludes on Friday with the Joint Standing Committee on Defence’s engagement with the Defence Force Service Commission (DFSC) on its 2024 Annual Activity Report. The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans will provide an overview of the coexistence between the DFSC and military unions.

- SALRC: 4 Discussion Papers on Review of the Criminal Procedure Act (Project 151)- The South African Law Reform Commission has published four discussion papers on the review of the Criminal Procedure Act.
