This week in Parliament, the National Assembly will debate the 2025 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals (National Budget), the centrepiece of this week’s legislative agenda. This debate will set the stage for broader discussions on public spending, revenue generation, and economic priorities.
On Tuesday, the Communications and Digital Technologies Committee will hear from state-owned entities on the establishment of a State Digital Infrastructure Company and receive an update on South Africa’s satellite space programme. The Finance Committees will adopt their report on the Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals, while the Select Committee on Finance will hear from Gauteng and Western Cape Treasuries on their quarterly financial performance. Meanwhile, the Basic Education Committee will engage the Department of Basic Education on the progress of making History a compulsory subject, and the Agriculture Committee will review progress on the African Continental Free Trade Area and the Agriculture and Agroprocessing Master Plan. The Home Affairs Committee will deliberate on political party funding regulations and assess the department’s ongoing network challenges.
On Wednesday, the Appropriations Committee will consult with the South African Local Government Association and the Financial and Fiscal Commission on the 2025 Division of Revenue Bill, Appropriation Bill, and Eskom Bill. The Defence and Military Veterans Committee will receive a joint briefing from National Treasury and the Department of Defence on force rejuvenation and transition support for exiting SANDF members. Meanwhile, the Trade and Industry Committee will examine progress on one-stop-shops for investment and red-tape reduction, while the Human Settlements Committee will hear from major metros on their management of the Urban Development Grant, informal settlements, and land invasions.
Friday sees a joint briefing by the Communications and Basic Education Committees on the progress of school connectivity initiatives, while the Joint Standing Committee on Defence will receive an update from the National Conventional Arms Control Committee on outstanding reports and the rollout of an electronic permit application system.

- SALRC: 4 Discussion Papers on Review of the Criminal Procedure Act (Project 151): The South African Law Reform Commission has published four discussion papers on the review of the Criminal Procedure Act.
