This week in Parliament, committees are set to address crucial issues spanning education, digital communications, infrastructure, and financial oversight. On Tuesday, the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education will provide a status update on the BELA Act Regulations and Implementation, specifically concerning Grade R Admissions. The Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies will hold a joint briefing with the Portfolio Committee on Justice to discuss collaborative engagement related to RICA SIM cards registration, transactional and fraudulent activities, and the RICA amendment. The Select Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Mineral Resources will receive a briefing on the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries’ APP and Budget Vote. The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs will engage with the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly on the Electoral Commission Amendment Bill (PMB). On Wednesday, the Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure will review its 2024/25 4th quarter performance. The Select Committee on Public Infrastructure & Minister in the Presidency will receive briefings on the Strategic Plans, APPs, and Budgets of PRASA and SANRAL. The Select Committee on Appropriations will consider Negotiating Mandates on the 2025 Division of Revenue Bill. The Select Committee on Security and Justice will consider Policy Assessment and Review Reports on the South African Police Service, Independent Police Investigative Directorate, and Civilian Secretariat for Police Service.

Later in the week, on Thursday, the Joint Standing Committee on Financial Management of Parliament will hold a follow-up engagement with the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure and Parliament’s management on the installation of the Nieuwmeester Dome. Concluding the week on Friday, the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education will receive a briefing from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) on the Independent Panel for the Selection and Recommendation of SETAs Accounting Authority Chairpersons.
