  • FNB/BER Consumer Confidence Index (Q4) Released

On Tuesday, the FNB/BER consumer confidence index for the fourth quarter will be released. The index fell to minus 13 in the third quarter after a short-lived improvement earlier in the year. Analysts will be watching closely to see whether confidence deteriorated further, which would signal ongoing fragility in household sentiment and spending.

  • Public Interviews for Next National Prosecuting Authority Head

Public interviews for candidates to succeed National Prosecuting Authority head Shamila Batohi will get under way in Pretoria on Wednesday. • Stats SA to Publish October Industrial Production and Motor Trade Data

Statistics South Africa will on Thursday release October industrial production figures, covering both mining and manufacturing activity. Mining output is expected to show moderate year-on-year growth, supported by firmer commodity prices and incremental improvements in logistics. Manufacturing production, however, is forecast to remain under pressure, reflecting ongoing weakness in heavy industries despite early signs of recovery in some consumer-oriented subsectors. Stats SA will also publish wholesale and motor trade data, offering a fuller view of domestic trade conditions.

  • BER to Release Q4 Inflation Expectations Survey

The Bureau for Economic Research will publish its fourth-quarter inflation expectations survey on Friday, offering an important gauge of how the formal adoption of a 3% inflation target is being absorbed by businesses, analysts and trade unions. The survey will be the first conducted since the new target was announced, and a further decline in expectations would reinforce the Reserve Bank’s confidence that lower inflation is becoming entrenched — a key consideration for the future path of interest rates.
