  • President Ramaphosa to Undertake State Visit to Brazil

President Cyril Ramaphosa will travel to Brazil for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on multilateral issues.

  • Q4 2025 GDP Data to Be Released

Gross domestic product figures for the fourth quarter of 2025 will be published, offering a key read on economic momentum at the end of the year. Growth previously registered at 0.5% on a quarter-on-quarter annualised basis, while year-on-year expansion stood at 2.1%, providing a modest base as the economy enters the new year.

  • Provinces Begin Tabling 2026 Budgets

Provincial governments begin tabling their 2026 budgets this week, with finance MECs presenting spending plans for the coming fiscal year. Budgets were tabled in Gauteng, North West, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo yesterday, followed by Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape today, and the Western Cape tomorrow.

  • Current Account and Production Data Due

Attention will turn to the Q4-2025 current account figures, with the deficit expected to have widened from 0.7% of GDP in the third quarter to around 1% in the final quarter. January mining production and manufacturing production data will also be released, offering further insight into activity in the industrial sector at the start of the year.

  • Parliamentary Committees to Review Budget Submissions

The standing committee on finance and the select committee on finance will hold a joint meeting to receive responses from National Treasury and the South African Revenue Service to submissions made on the 2026 budget’s fiscal framework and revenue proposals, as part of Parliament’s oversight of the budget process.
