This week in Parliament: Agriculture, Procurement & Expropriation

A rather full schedule lies ahead for the members of parliament this week. 

On Tuesday the National Assembly (NA) will consider a report by the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Reform on the Preservation of Agricultural Land Bill. The bill aims to provide principles for the management of agricultural land, for the evaluation and classification of agricultural land, as well as the establishment and management of the national agro-eco information system.

The Public Procurement Bill will again be considered on Wednesday by the NA.

The Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, will deliver his annual address to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday at 14:00, titled “Accelerating the provision of social services, safety and the advancement of economic reforms for economic recovery in the interest of the people.”

On Wednesday the NCOP will consider the Expropriation Bill, in the continuation of a closely-watched process that has received a lot of public attention.

The Select Committees on Trade and Industry, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism and Employment and Labour will be briefed by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition on the Companies Amendment Bill on Tuesday. 

On Thursday the Select Committees on Public Enterprises and Communication will be briefed by the Department of Public Enterprises on the progress made with the implementation of the Zondo Commission Recommendations report.
