The fourth and final term of the year commences this week. With various committee meetings scheduled, the National Assembly will only be convening its first plenary for the term on Thursday 19 October and will solely focus on the consideration of the Budget Reviews and Recommendations Reports (BRRR) this week.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will appear before the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Thursday afternoon to answer questions from members of the house. The president will be asked about steps to curb the influence of the so-called “construction mafia” in South Africa and he is also set to be questioned about the recent findings of an official panel on the docking of the Russian ship the Lady R in Simonstown late last year.
Some of the committee meetings that stand out this week include briefings by the office of the Auditor General on audit outcomes for various government departments and entities, including Treasury.
In the NCOP, the Select Committee on Transport, Public Service and Administration, Public Works and Infrastructure will be considering oral and written submissions on the controversial Expropriation Bill on Wednesday.
