This week in Parliament: Deputy President & Economic Cluster
Sep 18, 2023

This week ministers in the economic cluster will be answering questions in parliament. Especially answers by the Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, and the Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, will be closely watched. Godongwana is expected to be asked about Treasury’s proposed budget cuts, a very sensitive issue for the governing party before next year’s elections. Ramokgopa is expected to give feedback on what progress was made on the implementation of Eskom’s Plant and Recovery Plan.

On Friday the deputy president, Paul Mashatile, will also be answering questions in the National Assembly. The topics he will be questioned on range from land reform to the functionality of coalition governments.

On committee level, this week will see hearings on unauthorised expenditure in various departments.

In the National Council of Provinces, the Select Committee on Public Enterprises and Communication will be updated by the Department of Public Enterprises on the progress made on the unbundling of Eskom into three divisions.
