Even though this coming Friday is a public holiday, the week’s schedule is a busy one.
It is the final week of programming for the first terms of 2024. The National Council Of Provinces enters a constituency period from 2 – 15 April, with the National Assembly (NA) entering a constituency period from 2 April to 21 May. The practical implication of this is that this week is likely to be the final week of programming for the NA before the elections on 29 May.
The National Nuclear Regulator Amendment Bill will receive attention in the National Assembly. The Bill updates the Act of 1999 with new definitions, and it also aims, among other goals, to authorise the Regulator to perform additional regulatory functions.
On Wednesday the Ministers in the Economic Cluster will be answering questions.
Ms N Mhlongo (EFF) will ask the Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, what steps he intends to take to overcome Eskom’s maintenance backlog.
Mr C N Malematja (ANC) will ask the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Ebrahim Patel, what progress has been made with the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and how many domestic enterprises are trading through the agreement?
On Wednesday the Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, will answer questions. Mr X Nqola (ANC) will ask him whether the government plans to implement specific measures to combat the so-called “construction mafia” and their disruption of construction sites which threaten the industry.
On committee level, Legacy Reports will be considered and adopted.
