This week, Parliament’s agenda features quite a number of plenary sessions and committee meetings addressing critical legislative and oversight matters.
The Economics Cluster ministers will answer key questions on Wednesday. The cluster includes ministers responsible for economic policy, finance, electricity, and energy. Among the highlighted questions are:
- Mr K J Mileham (DA) will ask the Minister of Electricity and Energy about steps to ensure Eskom’s financial transparency, particularly regarding its 36.15% tariff increase request and delayed financial reporting.
- Ms O M C Maotwe (EFF) will question the Minister of Finance on how the government plans to build state capacity while “privatising” key state enterprises like Transnet and Eskom.
Also noteworthy this week, the Portfolio Committee on Police will deliberate on Crime Statistics for the second quarter. The Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition will receive a briefing by the National Treasury on the Public Procurement Act, which plays a pivotal role in promoting industrialisation and inclusive growth through efficient procurement practices, ensuring compliance with key economic policies.
