This week in Parliament: Energy & Procurement
Mar 4, 2024

Energy concerns still remain a focus of parliamentary activity this week.

The Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy will this week give extensive attention to the Electricity Regulation Amendment Bill and the National Nuclear Regulator Amendment Bill. On Wednesday the committee will also be briefed by Eskom on the potential effects the bill will have on them as energy provider.

The ministers in the Social Services Cluster (Basic Education; Health; Higher Education, Science and Innovation; Human Settlements; Social Development; Sport, Arts and Culture; Water and Sanitation) will be answering questions in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Ms A. Gela (ANC) will ask the Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla, how the National Health Insurance (NHI) system will be funded and how the phased approach of the NHI be implemented.

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, will be asked by Mr M. R. Mashego (ANC) what steps have been taken to ensure access to safe, clean drinking water and adequate sanitation infrastructure to improve the so-called Blue Drop Report findings.

On Friday in a meeting of the Select Committee on Finance responses by National Treasury will be received on submissions on the Public Procurement Bill. The Bill will also be considered clause by clause. It aims to regulate public procurement and to prescribe a framework within which preferential procurement must be implemented.
