This week in Parliament: Committee activities

A busy schedule is lined up for Members of Parliament this week.

On Tuesday, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) will hold a hearing on the Transnet Audit Outcome. The meeting will cover financial performance, irregular and wasteful expenditure, governance issues, human resources, deviations, expansions, and accruals.

On the same day, the Portfolio Committee on Mineral and Petroleum Resources will be briefed by the Minister on the impact of TotalEnergies’ withdrawal from offshore blocks.

On Wednesday, the Portfolio Committee on Police will receive a briefing from Statistics South Africa on the 2023/24 Victims of Crime Survey.

Also on Wednesday the Governance cluster will be asked questions in the National Assembly. The ministers in the governance cluster consists of the Minister in The Presidency; the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs; the Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; the Minister of Public Service and Administration; and the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.

Mr D Bergman (DA) will ask the Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation whether her office has found that the president in effect nullifies the need for establishing the national shareholder company to manage the state-owned enterprises by assigning the shareholder responsibilities for a number of state-owned enterprises to the respective line-function.

The Portfolio Committee on Electricity and Energy will be briefed by the National Energy Regulator of SA (NERSA) regarding municipal electricity tariff increases.
