Even though the week is broken up by a public holiday on Thursday, the somewhat shortened schedule for parliament this week still contains a number of important items.
On Tuesday the President, Cyril Ramaphosa, will answer questions in the National Assembly.
Dr MME Tlhape (ANC) will ask the president for details on the integrated planning in government to maintain growth and job creation in the agricultural sector through land reform.
From the opposition benches, the DA will ask the President whether lifestyle audits for the members of the executive have been completed, while the IFP and the FF Plus will ask about the one-month suspension of the Deputy Minister of Small Business Development, Ms E D Peters. It was found that Ms Peters had breached the Code of Ethical Conduct in her former portfolio as Minister of Transport.
Consideration of the Expropriation Bill by the National Council of Provinces has been scheduled for Tuesday as well. The Bill aims to provide for the expropriation of property for a public purpose or in the public interest, and to identify instances where the provision of nil compensation may be just and equitable for expropriation in the public interest.
The Ministers in the Economic Cluster will answer questions on Wednesday. The Minister in the Presidency for Electricity, Mr K Ramokgopa, will be asked quite a few questions, ranging in scope from the energy availability factor, the Independent Transmission Projects model and the impact of small-scale embedded generation on Eskom.
On committee level, both the Pension Funds Amendment Bill and the Public Procurement Bill will receive attention this week.
The Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises on Wednesday will in all likelihood receive media attention as the cancelled South African Airways – Takatso strategic equity partnership will be placed under the spotlight.
