This week sees parliament moving back into action. On Tuesday, Treasury will be briefing the Select Committee on Finance on the Public Procurement Bill. The bill aims to regulate public procurement and to prescribe a framework within which preferential procurement must be implemented.
The Electricity Regulation Amendment Bill provides for additional electricity, the establishment of the Transmission System Operator SOC Ltd., as well as an open market platform that allows for competitive electricity trading. On Friday the first draft of a provincial public hearings report on the Bill will tabled in a meeting of the Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy.
Most attention will however be focussed on the president’s State of the Nation Address on Thursday night, in which he will set out government’s priorities for the year ahead.
