This week in Parliament: Taxes & Petroleum
Aug 28, 2023

The National Assembly resumes official activities this week after a long constituency period. A number of portfolio committee meetings are scheduled.

Tuesday the standing committee on finance will be briefed by Treasury and the Revenue Service on this year’s proposed tax amendments.

On Wednesday the Reserve Bank will brief the standing committee on finance on its annual report. It is widely expected that the bank will also use the opportunity to expand on its controversial report on the theft at president Cyril Ramaphosa’s game farm, Phala Phala. The report was released on 21 August.

Wednesday will also see deliberations on the Upstream Petroleum Resources Development Bill. The Bill seeks to provide for equitable access to and sustainable development of the country’s petroleum resources, specifically through the regulatory authority of newly designated state bodies.

The National Council of Provinces will only formally be returning next week Monday.
