Parliament sees a full programme of parliamentary sittings and portfolio committee meetings this week. The schedule features a number of important departmental budget votes, including those of Public Enterprises and Trade, Industry and Competition.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile will also be answering questions on Thursday and there will also be a vote by MP’s on the establishment of an ad hoc committee to exercise over the new Minister of Electricity and his programmes.

On Tuesday, deliberations on the Railway Safety Bill will continue before the Portfolio Committee of Transport. The Bill aims to make the country’s passengers and freight safer. It provides for a system of safety permits and aims to establishes a national railway safety information and monitor system. It also has as a goal the promotion of rail as a preferred mode of transport that will help grow the country’s economy
On Friday, the National Security Advisor to the President will be appearing before SCOPA regarding ex-GCEO of Eskom on allegations of corruption and maladministration at Eskom.
The meeting follows the publication of André de Ruyter’s book, Truth To Power last week and the power utility warning of Stage 8 load shedding during the upcoming winter months. Sydney Mufamadi, in his role as National Security Advisor to the President, will be questioned by the committee following appearances by the SAPS, Hawks and SIU leadership last week.
